About the Centre

Vision
Strong voices for public health. Leaders for change.

Mission
To strengthen current and future public health leaders by equipping them with knowledge, tools and training to communicate effectively on key issues.

History
Following Dr. Sheela Basrur’s death in June 2008, family, friends and colleagues joined with Public Health Ontario to commemorate her achievements and raise funds in her name.

Later that year, the Sheela Basrur Centre was set up to honour her legacy, as Ontario’s former chief medical officer of health and as a long-standing advocate for the health and well-being of all Ontarians.

The Centre, established through the generous support of five founding partners and personal donations, is guided by an advisory council.

Public Health Ontario took on the name of the Sheela Basrur Centre and supports its activities.

The Centre's activities
The Centre offers training, education programs and special events focusing on enhancing the communications and leadership skills of existing and emerging public health professionals.
