the achievements of our award recipients over the past year. SBC’s
presence at TOPHC this year will be quite significant, as this year marks the
10th anniversary of the opening of Centre. Following the recognition
ceremony, a short video will be presented to commemorate this milestone and
spotlight the last ten years of the Centre – it’s creation and evolution, Dr.
Basrur’s valuable contributions to public health and what the next decade might
hold for the Centre.
Thursday, March 28th
SBC Conversation
with a Public Health Leader session will feature a question and answer session
with Dr. David Williams for students and young professionals.
Friday, March 29th

Measuring and Communicating the Value and Impact of Public Health, will be
offered as a full-day session on the final day of TOPHC, focusing on
articulating the value of public health to the health care system and the

Centre’s programs. The poster themes as are follows:
- Our 2018 Student Travel Bursary recipient, Leah
Shipton, will highlight her learnings from her placement at the World Health
Organization last summer, focusing on public health policy, human rights and global governance. There
will also be an audio component to her poster, providing some valuable insight
and reflections post-practicum which will be of interest to the students in
attendance at the conference.
- Two
SBC alumni, Carla King and Anna Vanderlaan, will be showcased in their current
public health roles, demonstrating how their SBC learnings have supported their
career development.
- To
honour Dr. Basrur’s exceptional abilities in leadership and
communications, an SBC vision board will be displayed during the conference
with the intention of acquiring feedback from public health professionals.
Conference attendees will be encouraged to share their thoughts and ideas on
specific communications and leadership skills required to tackle
future public health emergencies which will inform future programs offered by the Centre.
